TOTW #5: “I Know”

…And here we are at Track of the Week #5! If you’ve been following this series, you may have noticed that I’ve been alternating each week between Eric’s songs and my own. It’s another Eric week, so I thought I’d post about the Eric song which brought me into the band, and which seems to be his biggest “hit” overall:

“I Know” is a bristling, chugging, crunchy slab of indie-rock, draped with feedback and ethereal harmonies. It’s equal parts punk-metal and shoegaze, owing much to bands like Hum and Deftones, but with a melodic sensibility of its own… Continue reading

TOTW #1: “The Bird and the Lemming”

I’ve decided to start posting one of our tracks every week — a soundcloud link, and a few of my own short thoughts about it — just for those of you who are interested in this sort of thing.

So, “Track of the Week #1”: Have a listen to “The Bird and the Lemming,” a track from the latter half of our 2016 album, “Crooked House!” One of our simpler tunes, kind of a humorous one — and a duet nonetheless! — this Eric song is all about bad leaders and those who choose to follow them. (At least… Continue reading

Booze Cracks the Code…

We’ve been rehearsing with Jason Booze, our new drummer. Last night’s rehearsal was our third together, I think. And I just wanted to say: It was hilarious and impressive that he actually figured out the changes to “Long History” on his own, and then NAILED IT on the first playthrough!

That particular song features a weird shifting time-signature, switching fluidly between 6/8, 7/8, and 8/8. We expected it to be the most difficult song in our set for Jason (or any drummer) to learn, so we’d been waiting to introduce it until some later point.

Jason told us… Continue reading

Cleaning-out the photo-drawer…

We took a bunch of photos around this time last year, in preparation for the release of “Crooked House.” We never really got around to using many of these, and since Adam (our drummer) is now leaving the band (to raise a young’n), it seems like a good time to post the lot.

The lineup as pictured here includes Adam Karleskint, Matt Mayo, Eric Hartley, and Yours Truly (which is my actual legal name).

Thanks to Andy Jenson, our original bassist, who snapped these pics.

We’ll be working-in a… Continue reading
