Our next show is coming up on May 30, at The TreeHouse, near 18th & Boston in Tulsa. We’ll be playing with our friends Gigantic, who are coming down from Springfield, MO, on the first stop of their Gigantour! It’s gonna be a fun night. TreeHouse is one of Tulsa’s best club venues, with fantastic sound and lights and all that awesome stuff. Plus, I’m pretty sure you won’t wanna miss Gigantic’s smartass antics. Dachshund & The Big O Show – Friday, 3/1/13 – Hunt Club!

He was just a lonely skullopus, looking for love in the vast wilderness of American suburbia. Through trashcans and flower-gardens he slithered, dreaming of the day he might caress the slimy, loving tentacles of another of his kind.

One day while making his way through a patch of gardenias, he happened across a colorful poster which had blown out of a nearby dumpster. It smelled like coffee-grounds, beer-bottles, sardines, and vomit. Not only was it a wonderful aroma, but the artwork depicted another creature very much like himself! Surely this was a sign, he thought. Having studied English as a younger skullopus, he was able to make out the words. It was some sort of an advertisement. For a concert, perhaps? Bands named “Dachshund” and “The Big O Show.” Friday March 1. At a place called “Hunt Club.”

Well, he’d never heard of the bands, but he knew about The Hunt Club, of course. Being a native Tulsan, this skullopus prided himself on being in-the-know about all the happening local nightspots.

So he went to the Hunt Club that Friday night. He was disappointed, at first, to find no other skullopi (skullopusses?) there. But then the bands started playing, and the music was good. He met a few human friends. He drank a good drink. He laughed a good laugh. He danced a squirmy dance.

In the end, he didn’t find love that night. But he found a good time, and he made some new friends. And for awhile, that made everything okay.

How about some new music? Here’s a weird-but-fun jam culled from a recent rehearsal. That’s Eric playing the simple riff which kicked the whole thing off, Andy on bass, Adam on drums, and yours truly delivering a strange, “King Missile”-inspired story that I made up as I went along. All of it was utterly spontaneous, but it ended up sounding surprisingly surreal and awesome. Take a listen!

Dachshund is playing The Hunt Club tonight! It should be a great show, and it will probably be our LAST show for awhile. After this gig, we’re gonna try working-in a keyboardist, and that may take a few months. We’ll see what happens with that. But if you’ve been meaning to come see us and haven’t yet, tonight’s the night! First gig of the new year! We’re playing Saturday, 1/19, at our favorite bar in Tulsa — The Hunt Club, 224 N. Main. The opening band will be craggy indie-blues duo, The Danner Party. It’ll be a fun night, and we’ve got a great mix of old songs and new ones at this point, so you should come out, especially if you haven’t seen us in awhile. If the weather’s cold or otherwise crappy, we’ll be playing indoors.
